Our home and kennel
All my Danes are family members and live with me in the house as cherished and
pampered pets who have taken over the sofas and the beds. Kennel buildings and
alike are just not part of our lifestyle. I keep only so many dogs that they can
live in the house comfortably without too many restrictions. This way my Danes
get used to family life and the normal household apparel already as puppies and
I know all my Danes to the smallest detail and they get equal amounts of my
time, care and attention, also one-on-one cuddle bug time with me - and they
love it so much they learn in no time how to tell mama they are in need of a
good belly rub and some cuddle time.
My Danes go where I go whenever possible. I do not travel often nor go clubbing
or parties, I work mostly from home and most of the about 8 hours a week that I
spend away from home without my Danes I spend at the gym or in yoga or
Pilates lessons. They are never taken to boarding kennels. When I need to travel
for work or shows my dogs stay at home and they are taken care of by a person
they know and who knows them and their individual needs.
Basic guidelines that we follow:
-
My Danes are fed with high-quality kibble and raw foods three times
a day, fresh water is always available.
- They get to spend as much time outside as they wish, we have a
safe fully fenced 2500sqm yard.
- They are offered activities, experiences and exercise according
to individual needs.
- They are vaccinated and dewormed on a regular basis.
- They have a health check appointment with our regular vet at
least once a year.
- All my Danes go through a basic obedience training and are
taught to behave well in day-to-day situations.
- Their coat, skin, eyes, ears and paws are checked daily and kept
clean and nails are kept short.
- All my Danes have full insurances. Veterinarian is consulted and
vet care provided whenever needed, preferably for "no reason" and
sooner, rather than later.
- I do my best to ensure that my Danes do not cause any
disturbances to our surroundings and other people.
- We have invited the Finnish Kennel Club certified kennel
counsellor to visit us once a year. He goes through all the paper
work (i.e. registration, vaccination, health certificates etc.),
care routines, wellbeing, needed equipment, environment, feeding
etc. of the breeder's dogs and writes an unbiased report of which
one copy is given to the breeder and one sent to the FKC. So far he
has been very satisfied with us and the way my Danes are cared for.
